Wie ich einzelnen von euch bereits mitgeteilt habe, schreibe ich meine Lizentiatsarbeit in Kommunikations-Wissenschaft an der Uni Zürich zur Wikipedia. Die Forschungsfrage lautet: Unter welchen Bedingungen eignet sich das Wiki-Prinzip zur Sicherung der Qualität von publizistischen Inhalten? Ich untersuche den Einfluss von Bearbeitungs- und Nutzungshäufigkeit, Vandalismus, Anonymität, Relevanz und weiteren Faktoren auf die Qualität eines Wiki-Artikels. Ich erhoffe mir daraus empirisch überprüfte Antworten zu finden auf folgenden Fragen:
-Wie hoch ist die kritische Masse von Nutzern und Autoren für ein Wiki? -Wie wirken sich Anzahl Versionen, Anzahl Autoren, Diskussionsintensität, Nutzungshäufigkeit, Alter und Anzahl Backlinks auf die Qualität aus? -Wie wirkt sich Vandalismus auf die Qualität aus? -Welchen Beitrag leisten anonyme (nicht angemeldete) Autoren? -Wie ist der Zusammenhang zwischen der Relevanz der Themen und Qualität der Artikel
Ich untersuche dies an einer Stichprobe von 450 Artikeln der deutschen Wikipedia anhand von etwa 50 Qualitätsindikatoren. Im Moment befinde ich mich in der Phase der Datenerhebung. Wenn ich den Zeitplan einhalte, werde ich die Forschungsarbeit im Juli abschliessen. Zum Zeitpunkt der Abstract-Deadline des Wikimania-Call-for-Papers am 10. Mai werde ich wahrscheinlich bereits erste Resultate präsentieren können, allerdings noch nicht alle Daten ausgewertet haben.
Da ich aber denke, dass die Resultate meiner Studie sehr interessant sind für die Wikipedia-Community, würde ich sie gerne auf der Wikimania präsentieren. Wie soll ich weiter vorgehen? Reicht es, wenn ich bis am 10. Mai ein Paper zusammenstelle mit den ersten Resultaten und die vollständigen Resultate später nachreiche?

I’m writing my thesis in communication science at the University in Zurich (Switzerland) about Wikipedia. I research the following question: What are the conditions for a wiki system to produce journalistic texts of high quality.
I measure the influence that traffic, number of edits, vandalism, anonymous edits and relevance have on the quality of the articles. To put it into concrete terms, I try to find answers to the following questions:
-What is the critical mass for users and authors in a wiki system? -What effect have number of edits, authors and discussion edits, traffic, age of the article and backlins on quality? -what influence has vandalism on quality? -Do anonymous authors contribute in a positive or negative way? -What is the connection between the relevance of a topic an the quality of the article?
I research a sample of 450 articles from the german Wikipedia. Right now I’m recording the data and hope to finish the work on my thesis by july. By the time of the abstract deadline for papers (10th of May) I will not have analysed all the data but can present first results. The final results are due to the end of may. Because I think that the results of my research are very useful for Wikipedians, I would like to present them at Wikimania conference. Is it possible to submit first results on the 10th of may and hand in the final results later?
